We went to Costa Rica to celebrate a friend’s wedding. Aditi was the flower girl and I was the “official” photographer. We spent a few days before the wedding at Arenal, which I just found out from wikipedia, unexpectedly erupted in as recently as 1968 and wiped out the town of Tabacon! Anyway I did know it was an active volcano and apparently it is one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world.
We stayed at Tabacon Grand Spa and Resort in Arenal, which meant we had total access to the springs. This was particularly great when the kids woke up at the crack of dawn and we headed out before breakfast to the hot springs and found we had it all to ourselves. We went off season so we got some kind of discounted rate but I think I would recommend it at any price.
We did drag ourselves out of the hotel one day to visit a wildlife rescue shelter, where they rescue all sorts of animals that were either injured in the wild or abandoned when they got too aggressive to be pets or turned in by wildlife rangers. I think this could have been a really great excursion but the day was unreasonably hot (says the girl from Chennai) and the kids wilted about five minutes into the tour. I think they also needed to be older to understand all the information we were given by the guide. Aditi thought it would it like Diego and so she was quite disappointed with the reality of an animal rescue.
That’s the first part of our Costa Rica trip. We packed up and went to Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio where the wedding was. I’ll add more pictures later.
